What You Measure Grows

Create a scorecard for your business so you can measure your growth.

Athletes do this all the time. They are always working to beat their best times. It’s the same in business. Focus on your metrics so you can beat yourself each month. This works particularly well in your marketing.

What You Measure Grows

Create a scorecard for your business so you can measure your growth.

I know a lot of you don’t like numbers and accountants may stress you out. To be honest I am a bit the same.

Because of this, we’d rather bury our heads in the sand than look at the numbers right? Well, this must stop if you want to grow.

Go out and get a big whiteboard or piece of poster paper.

You’re going to create a scorecard that you can see ev- ery day.

Pick the numbers you want to measure. You don’t have to be technical or fancy. Literally just things like revenue, leads, or new sales.

Pick the metrics you want to see and make as many columns as you have categories.

Each day Monday through Friday, write down the number. Then try to beat that number each week.

Maybe you only focus on one column at a time. At the end of the month, add it all up and keep that number in the last column.

Then you’ll be able to track month to month as well.

Something funny happens when you focus 100% in one direction. You will try to beat your own best goals.

Athletes do this all the time. They are always working to beat their best times. It’s the same in business. Focus on your metrics so you can beat yourself each month.

One thing I’ve learned is that whatever you measure, you can increase. If you don’t measure it, you can never increase it. I’ve looked at that over the last years. I looked through my numbers with my accountants.

It’s been up and down, up and down. There was never steady progression, just ups and down. I think with this, it gives us a focus every single day of what can I do today to increase my business.

To give yourself motivation I suggest you label the place where you have decided to collect your numbers…

“How to give yourself a raise everyday,” and how often do we look at it. Everyday, how do we give ourselves a raise?

Yesterday, we did $13,000. How do we give ourselves $14,000 today? What do we have to do to give ourselves a raise today, always having that be the focus.

That’s what I am urging you to do along with your teams build a scorecard. And make it fun.

Look at it every single day. Break your score card into three sections, daily, weekly, and yearly numbers.

Another thing to do is - Each day, mail out a report in the morning from the day before of, “Hey, here’s how many opt-ins, subscribers, buyers, blah, blah, blah we got”

So that’s now a daily email scorecard that goes out as well as the big scorecard for your numbers displayed somewhere on the wall.

I urge you to create something that’s front and center every single day, and just look at those numbers every single day because again, what you track, you can increase.

That’s it, guys.

Remember

Whatever you focus on grows.
